After a long winter, when the sun’s warmth finally melts through the crust of snow, what could be better than shaking off the stagnation of winter and practicing on the fresh green grass? Take your yoga blanket outside into a warm, dry sunny spot and spread it out. Let the unevenness of the ground inform your practice and challenge you to a deeper understanding of grounded, steadiness. Let the sun fill your heart as you do sun salutations on the earth with the sky as your ceiling. Feel the earths rhythms, sounds and steadiness as you lie in shavasana, held by the warm spring ground. Coming out of shavasana, let your body feel the subtle and not so subtle movements happening all around you, as the natural world awakens once again, after its long winter slumber.
